Cognitive, Instrumental, and Social Interaction Analysis Research Lab

Control Room

The Control Room is the central space for monitoring, recording, synchronizing, and processing the different signals generated during experiments. From this room, researchers can supervise activities taking place in the Observation Room through a one-way mirror, reducing interference with participants while simultaneously integrating behavioral, audiovisual, eye-tracking, and physiological data.

Main equipment: Noldus The Observer XT, MediaRecorder, FaceReader, BioNomadix physiological recording systems, Tobii Pro Glasses 3, specialized processing units, audiovisual monitoring systems, and a 25 TB internal storage server. Together, these systems support synchronized multimodal recording and analysis of experimental behavior. simultaneously integrating behavioral, audiovisual, eye-tracking, and physiological data.

Observation Room

The Observation Room is designed for individual, dyadic, and social or instrumental interaction studies. It provides a controlled experimental environment in which participants can perform tasks while their behavior is monitored and recorded from the adjacent Control Room through a one-way mirror. This configuration helps minimize researcher interference during data collection.

Main equipment: The room includes a multi-camera audiovisual recording system with six video cameras and infrastructure for integrating behavioral and psychophysiological measurements during experiments. These recordings can later be synchronized with other data sources, such as eye-tracking and physiological signals, through the laboratory’s multimodal recording system.

Basic Learning Laboratory

The Basic Learning Laboratory supports controlled experimental research on learning and other cognitive and behavioral processes in humans and invertebrate species. Its modular infrastructure allows researchers to precisely administer sensory stimuli and simultaneously record physiological, motor, and behavioral responses.

Main equipment: SMERS modular experimental system, physiological signal acquisition systems, EMG and heart-rate sensors, eye-tracking devices, MATLAB-based experimental control, and EthoVision XT for automated animal behavior tracking.
